Description
The Old Orangery (Polish: Stara Pomaranczarnia), built on the order of the last King of Poland Stanislaw August Poniatowski in the years 1786-1788 according to a project by the royal architect Dominic Merlini, is situated in the western part of the Warsawââ¬â¢s Royal Baths Park (Polish: Lazienki Krolewskie). The building was designed to house exotic trees and plants during winter months, which in the summer were put in the garden as decorative features. In front of the building there is a garden decorated with numerous stone sculptures created in the royal sculpture workshop. The sculptures create an open air museum. Among the sculptures there are eight busts of Roman Caesars, modeled on the ancient models by Francis Pinck
